I will never forget how excited I felt when I first got started in Netwok Marketing. The idea is so powerful. The possibilities are so grand. It was several days before I could get back to sleeping normal hours again. Planning and projecting were all consuming mental exercises. I was positive that others would 'see it' and jump at the chance to get started.
Many , if not most, have had a similar introtuction to MLM. And that excitement carried me along way. But I soon discovered that very few if any of my friends and loved ones, my 'warm market' could see my vision. And so I never did successfully recruit any of my friends or family. This came as a serious blow to my confidence in the methodology I was being taught.
So I progressed to the next phase of my Network Marketing training. I bought leads from my upline. This is how my upline built his organization. And if I just kept at it, I was sure that my success was just around the corner. And then....Well this next list will be the one (it couldn't be any worse than the last one).
Thomas Edison after hundreds of attempts to make the first electric light bulb and finally coming up with one that worked, said something to the effect that he hadn't failed all those times to make a light bulb, he had just learned hundreds of ways NOT to make a light bulb. Well, I've learned hundreds of ways NOT to build a Network Marketing business.
Three Errors To Avoid In Developing Your Business
DON'T make a list of one hundred friends and loved ones to start calling as your warm market. They have no desire to join your business and soon they will have no desire to join you in anything, like dinner, shopping, golf. That's why they call it the NFL club- No Friends Left.
Learn how to attract traffic on the INTERNET that is truly looking for a Network Marketing opportunity to build. Let me show you how.
DON'T try to sell your friends and family the products or services you are marketing Nobody likes to be sold anything, especially by their friends. We want to cherish our relationships with our friends and family not 'use' them. This will further upgrade your membership in NFL club.
Learn to give without want. Let them learn to enjoy your 'product' without pressure. Share with them, if it's appropriate, as you would your grandmothers coffee cake recipe or your brand new putter that you are just sure is going to take five strokes off your game. Let them come to you. (And any product you do give away become an business expense!)
DON'T hold off on started until you perfect your presentation. We can easily convince ourselves we need to learn just a little more, get one more key piece of software in place so we best just wait until after the next Super Saturday, the next whatever. Anything that will allow us to put off the pain of doing something outside of our comfort zone to grow our business.
Use what skills you have right now to be as productive as you can be right now. Let this be your new mindset "What is the most productive thing I can do right now to grow my business?" You can't afford to wait any longer. Learn as you go, use what you have and you will learn as you grow.
DON'T jump ship just because you are not finding the success you want as soon as you want. If you are not finding the success you want with this one, statistically you won't find it with the next either.
Choose a good company and then stick with it. Choose one that has products or services you like and use. One that has a good compensation plan, good training and leadership that is truly interested in your growth. And then find the mentor within your company that is willing to help you make it happen. Network Marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. It is a business. And like any business it takes hard work and dedication to succeed.
Now this is not to say that there is not a place for some of these methods in your business. I know many leaders in the industry that have built EMPIRES just this way. What I am saying, though, is that they did not work for me. And more than likely they are not working for you.
It's All About Training
The only thing that seperate the top 3% in MLM is knowledge and skill sets. MLM is an incredible opportunity. It does not matter where you came from or what you have to start with, you can create an amazing lifestyle. But it does not happen by chance. You must be willing to work hard and read and study and apply everything you learn.
What is really great is that most of what you need to get started is free and only a mouse click away.. As I said much of it is free but not without cost. You have to find it and then you have to put it into practice. There is so much information and training waiting for you on the Internet all you have to do is find. Learn to use Google's Keyword tool at http://googlekeywordtool.com. There are also hundreds if not thousands of great teachers and mentors out there ready to help you develop your potential.
A word of caution though. Never fall into the trap of blaming someone else for your lack of success. Remember this is your business. It is your responsibility whether your business grows and prospers or suffers along in mediocrity, IT IS ALWAYS UP TO YOU!
